10 great things you can do to improve your health while driving

The average American spends approximately 101 minutes a day driving.  Many times we get stuck in serious traffic or we find ourselves having to wait at endless lights.  Have you ever thought to yourself, that you could be doing 9 million other things instead of just sitting in your car?  Do you like to multi-task? Are you procrastinating on taking better care of your health?  Well, I have the solution.  I will help you make better use of your drive time and improve your health while keeping your eyes on the road.  Here are 10 things you can do while driving that can help increase your health, making you stronger while sitting behind the wheel.

Chin and Neck Exercises
Do belly Busters
Spine Stretchers
Tension Tacklers
Best time to drink your water
Moisturize your cuticles
Drink you smoothies and juice instead of soda
Steering Wheel Isometrics
Park further away
Meditation

You can firm up that chin and neck by using a rubber or foam ball. Place the ball below your chin and below the larynx. Hold the ball in place with your hand, and use your chin to press down on the ball. Squeeze the ball gently downward with your chin. Do as many repetitions as you are comfortable with, stopping before your neck muscles get tired.

While driving, pretend you’re zipping a tight pair of jeans. Pull your belly button toward your spine and your lower belly away from your waistband. Hold, engaging your abs.  Up the intensity, quickly exhale 20 times. As you breathe out, contract your lower abs even harder to pulse them in and out.

While stuck in traffic, grip the steering wheel with your hands at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and round your back. Take a breath and release. This stretches the area between the shoulder blades and mid-back.

While stuck at a red light, tilt your right ear down towards your right shoulder. Relax your shoulders and breathe into the left side of your neck, stretching the left side of your neck. Hold for 10 seconds.  At the next light, repeat on the other side.
Steering wheel isometrics can really create a great workout, without you having to set aside 20 minutes during your day. With isometrics, you can use your body’s own resistance, but you can also employ stationary objects in your exercises such as a steering wheel that can heed some great results.
We know that water is essential to our health and if you aren’t doing this already, try to always have bottled water in your car.  You can easily get the required amount of hydration if you make this a habit.  The other option is juice or smoothies for your daily fruit or vegetable intakes.  There are several delicious versions located at places like gas stations and Starbucks.
Other areas that require healthy attention are our hands. Try moisturizing your cuticles by using a moisturizing lip balm.  This can really help make your nails grow and keep your hands looking lovely.
Of course the obvious isn’t so obvious sometimes. Instead of rushing to find the perfect parking spot; park further away and walk brisk to get a little bit more cardio in.  Heck, if you have the time-do laps around the parking lot!
Driving can be stressful but it can also create Zen. To practice Moving Meditation you must fully accept where you find yourself. Divest yourself of all expectations and standards of technique and take that clear, observing, unobserving, unobstructed state of being, and keep on driving!

These tips will not only improve your health and keep you fit, they will also make your drive time seem more productive.  Pssssst…give it a whirl and pass it on!

10 Surprising Car Facts (2013 Edition)

We’re car nerds. We can’t help it.  The new car smell entices our senses, we love long drives to nowhere and we sporadically wince at the occasional fender bender. When your passion for cars extends past your daily commute, you know you have a problem.  Since you’re reading today’s blog, you also have a love for these giant hunks of medal.  Well, don’t worry; we ‘ve packed some awesome facts about the car industry in today’s blog to take care of that itch.  And by itch, we mean that insatiable appetite for everything automotive related.  Enjoy!

  • Did you know the priciest city to park your car is in London?  Parking in central London can cost up to £578.87 per month (that’s about $900 American!). Plus you’ll have to pay the congestion charge just to get there. WOW
  •  On average, every American will spend about two entire weeks of their lifetime stopped at red lights.
  • 3.    The first speeding ticket ever issued was in 1902, when most cars could barely reach 45mph.  Talk about speed demons!
  • The most expensive car ever sold was the 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe, which sold in 1987 for a huge $8,700,000.
  • The largest speeding fine ever given was $1,000,000 to a Swedish man who was clocked doing 180mph in Switzerland. Unfortunately for him Switzerland has no fixed penalties for speeding; instead the pricing of a ticket is based on the speed and the salary of the driver in question. Jeez.
  • In 1972 the average speed driven by cars in Los Angeles was 60mph. By 1982 that number has now dropped to 17mph. Wow.
  • Do you use gas to fill up your vehicle?  Next time, try cappuccino!  The ‘Car-Purccino’ costs around 50 times more to run than the standard fuel powered cars, and uses up around 56 espressos per mile!

“Green” Friendly Car Tips of 2013

If you’re like us, then you do your part to help the environment. You’re constantly separating your recycling to save precious plastic materials, picking up little pieces of discarded trash everywhere you go, and watching documentaries on the animals that add character to our small planet.  At our dealership, we’re constantly on the search for new and innovative ways to help the environment.  Today, we’re providing you with some avenues to save when it comes to your vehicle:

1. Maintain the health of your engine by abiding by service appointments and regular upkeep.  Keeping your vehicle at peak performance by visiting the dealership is crucial to keeping your car in “green” territory.
2. Check the air pressure of your tires to maintain fuel preservation.  You can save MPG and avoid more emissions by keeping your tires inflated properly.
3. Don’t use “jack rabbit” acceleration techniques! Speeding off at a red light can greatly increase your gas consumption
4. Correctly dispose of engine fluids and batteries.  Give your government waste management agency a call to find out how to dispose of these hazardous chemicals.  Never pour them out onto the ground or any way that could drip into lakes or streams.

Do you have any “green” tips to add?  Feel free in the comments section below:

Our Favorite Instagram Photos of All-Time

Once in a while, a photo comes along that defines our brand, our goals and our automotive tenacity to the tee.

For those not familiar with Instagram, Instagram is an online photo-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take a picture, apply a digital filter to it, and share it on a variety of social networking services, including its own. A distinctive feature is that it confines photos to a square shape, similar to Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid images, in contrast to the 4:3 aspect ratio typically used by mobile device cameras.

By December 2010, Instagram had 1 million registered users.[50] In June 2011 Instagram announced it had 5 million users[51] and it passed ten million in September of the same year.[52] In April 2012, it was announced that over 30 million accounts were set up on Instagram.

In today’s blog, we’re providing our choice for the TOP Instagram photos of all time:

Audi Sets New Records

Audi sets new U.S. sales record of 139,310 vehicles in 2012; December ranks as best month ever

Audi ends year with 24th consecutive month of record sales; all-time bests recorded across all regions, throughout model lineup

HERNDON, Va., January 3, 2013 – Audi today announced that 2012 was the best year, and that December 2012 was the best month, in its history of selling new vehicles in the U.S. market.

For the full year, Audi sold 139,310 new cars and SUVs to eclipse the previous sales record set a year earlier by 18.5%.  Audi sales in the U.S. have increased 68.4% just since 2009.

December 2012 marked the first time Audi monthly sales have topped 13,000 units, with strong demand throughout the month pushing deliveries to 14,841 vehicles. That’s a 17.3% increase over the previous December sales record of 12,655 units in 2011. The most recent December also stands as the 24th consecutive month of record sales for Audi in the U.S. Audi began recording U.S. sales in February 1970.

Audi is a brand with clear momentum across our model lineup and across all sectors of our operations in the U.S. market,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. “This is the result of a business model based on steady and sustainable growth plans set in motion on top of an unswerving commitment by Audi leadership to invest in new vehicles and new technologies year after year. We expect the Audi brand to continue its strong upward trajectory in the U.S. market this year.”

Last month, AUDI AG announced that despite global economic uncertainties it will invest $17 billion (13 billion euros) to develop new models, new technologies and to expand its global production capabilities through 2016.

The American market will remain a key engine of growth for Audi globally, and the strength of the brand in the U.S. was demonstrated in a wide array of measures in 2012:

  • For December 2012, The Audi A8 and Audi A7 generated the best U.S. sales since the new-generation models arrived in the market. With strong demand for the Audi A6 and Audi Q7 full-sized SUV added in, Audi saw sales of its most premium models equal 32% of all Audi sales in 2012, up from 19% in 2009.
  • The popular Audi Q5 crossover, the second-best seller for the brand in 2012, produced the best monthly sales since the model’s introduction.
  • Sales of Audi clean diesel A3 TDI and Q7 TDI models set a new record for the year. Audi announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November that it will add A8 TDI, A7 TDI, A6 TDI and Q5 TDI models in 2013.
  • The U.S. finished as one of the strongest global markets for performance oriented S-models. The Audi S8, S7 and S6 models introduced last fall finished 2012 as some of the fastest selling vehicles available to American car buyers.
  • Each of the three Audi U.S. regions – Eastern, Southern and Western – turned in record sales for the full year. For 2013, Audi is adding a Central region to maintain a steady level of service to customers and dealers as the brand grows.
  • Sales in the biggest metropolitan markets – New York, Los Angeles, South Florida – achieved record levels in 2012.
  • Last year was the second-best year ever for Audi Certified pre-owned vehicle sales, overcoming limited supplies of available pre-owned vehicles. For the full year, 36,469 Audi CPO models were delivered to customers, down 2.1% from the record levels seen in 2011. December 2012 ranks as the second-best December after December 2011.

For the year, allroad sales amounted to 3,115 units (in addition to 1,252 A4 Avant sales in 2012) compared to 3,505 A4 Avant sales in 2011. The Audi allroad went on sale in the summer of 2012.
